Description: Healthy Families of East Tennessee is an innovative program that focuses on first-time parents, and begins during pregnancy if possible. It is designed to prevent child abuse and neglect through education, intervention, and strengthening the family before negative parenting practices begin. Healthy Families is a voluntary home visitation program that provides support and education through individual and group activities as well as a full range of case management services. Emphasis is placed on medical check-ups, immunizations, family planning, developmental screenings, and school readiness. Services are provided as needed until the child is of school age. First-time parents are eligible for the program regardless of age, race, income or level of education.

Conditions that apply: Eligible families may begin the program during the time period of the third trimester of pregnancy through the child turning four months of age. Families may remain in the program until the child is five years of age. Must be first-time parents within the Knox, Blount, Loudon or Jefferson Counties.
